Charles County Maryland is one of the fastest growing counties in the country so it is only fitting that one of the fastest growing race series comes here in the form of the St Charles Half Marathon presented by Lennar on April 18, 2010!  Title sponsor American Community Property Trust (ACPT) joins the Economic Development & Tourism Bureau of Charles County for the 1^st ever Half Marathon presented by Lennar which will be part of the nationwide 15-city USRA Half Marathon Series.  Within a reasonable distance of Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Richmond and the Carolinas, the course will traverse through ACPT’s planned community St Charles which includes a recently announced cutting edge “green community” initiative with the state of Maryland.  

While the Half Marathon presented by Lennar and Michelob Ultra 5Kwill traverse through St Charles, the accompanying “Fun Run”  will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the newly opened Charles County “Rail Trail”.    The federally funded, 13.2 “Rail Trail” was a 17-year project that showcases wildlife areas and provides a scenic running and biking trail through one of the state’s most picturesque counties.  In addition to the Fun Run, Saturday will also include a Runner’s Expo and Packet Pickup.

Each USRA Half Marathon Series event lives up to its motto of “Where the Runner Comes First” and the St Charles Half Marathon presented by Lennar April 17-18 will be no exception.    A “fun, festive” atmosphere will greet all participants with the event welcoming all abilities and ages with walkers, strollers and head phones welcomed along with runners vying for the nearly 150 awards!  There will be water/thirst quencher stations every two miles in the Half Marathon along with course porta-potties and medical support throughout.

All  Half Marathon presented by Lennar participants  will receive a high-quality “tech” shirt with a commemorative medal presented to all finishers.  An attractive race shirt will go to all Michelob Ultra 5K and Chick-Fil-A Fun Run participants.  Runners will be inspired by music throughout the course and a “Live Band” performing at the finish line party.   A special  “Military” division will be included with the top participating unit being awarded  a “Traveling Cup” for the highest number of participants.

The St Charles Half Marathon presented by Lennar will be a part of the 15-city nationwide USRA Half Marathon Series.   With a few more events to be added, the USRA schedule  in addition to the St Charles event in 2010 will include  Columbia SC (February 27), Bentonville AR (March 13),  Lexington KY (March 28), Council Bluffs IA (May 23),  Worcester MA (June 13), Bloomington, IN (October 3) Joplin MO (October 10; also including MOTHER ROAD MARATHON, - the only Marathon in the country that will run through “3” states – Oklahoma, Kansas and finishing in Missouri), Dalton GA (October 16), Lafayette IN (October 24) , Clarksville TN (October 30), Lancaster “Bird-in-Hand” (November 6), Stockton  CA (November 14) and Misissippi Gulf Coast (November 21)with more to be announced.  Further Series information may be obtained by contacting the USRA Half Marathon Series at dreinkesports@msn.com (407-599-0568) / USRARaceSeries.com
